Window treatments
Etched glass
My idea of window treatments is a little different. My passion in life is the sandblasting of glass. I think that etching is the perfect treatment for windows.
These are, in my opinion, the the top reasons to use etched glass as a window treatment.
- Privacy
- Windows can be etched in a way that allows light to come in. They can be from 10% opaque to 98% opaque. They can be back painted to block all shadows, light and view.
- Decoration
- Windows can be etched to your unique decorating taste. They can add to your style and decoration to the outside view of your house.
- Light
- There are two reasons etched glass improves daylight. 1. It allows daylight to come into your house in a softer way. Blinds block the light and collect the dust. 2. It diffuses the sunlight so that the sun will not fade carpet or contents of the room.
- Cleaning
- Etched glass can be installed as a overlay in the window frame. The etched side of the glass is sandwiched against the window. This keeps the etched side clean. The room side is smooth glass.
- view
- There are windows in houses that over look the neighbors bathroom or wall, potty ponds, junk collections, the street, and the list goes on and on. You may have a glass block window that you are tired of looking at. I have seen windows that the builder has installed obscure glass. I can create a window with a scene or design to forever hide your ugly view.
Bathroom window
Here is a sample of a bathroom window that I put wood blinds in behind a carved and then etched piece of glass. Check out the whole story on my blog.
Design possibilities
There are three ways to choose a window treatment design. One is to pick a design from the designs below. The second is to pick a design from one of my gallery's or you can click here to go to the design concepts page to learn a little more about the gallery's. The third way is to buy a licence. There is a large, no huge, body of work on the internet. Sites like Istock.com, vectorstock.com, vectorart.com and fotolia.com. These sites sell vector art, which is the line based graphics that I use for artwork. If you pick one of these designs be prepared to pay license fee. I wrote a article about Vector art, if you would care to read it. If you would like to look at these sites, It will give you a idea of the artwork that is available. The artwork usually needs to be changed for etching. Etched glass designs are mostly black and white. Clear glass is black and etched glass is white. You can add color to the glass with back painting. I just want you to keep in mind that color illustrations will not have color unless they are painted.
Here are 15 designs for you to choose from. The first 5 are border designs only. The next 5 are border designs with a center design. The next 5 are stained glass designs. Standard gallery.
